Pace Gallery: A Seven-Decade Odyssey of Artistic Innovation

Pace Gallery, a venerable institution founded by Arne Glimcher in 1960, stands as a paragon of artistic excellence and innovation, representing a constellation of the most influential contemporary artists and estates from the past century. With deep-rooted relationships that span decades, the gallery's illustrious roster includes luminaries like Alexander Calder, Jean Dubuffet, Barbara Hepworth, Agnes Martin, Louise Nevelson, and Mark Rothko.

Forging a Unique Artistic Legacy:

From its inception, Pace has celebrated an artist-centric ethos, making it a seminal institution that continually curates historical and contemporary exhibitions of profound significance. Guided by CEO Marc Glimcher, the gallery's commitment to championing its artists and sharing their visionary works resonates globally. As Pace embarks on its seventh decade, it ardently adheres to its mission, presenting a dynamic global program that spans exhibitions, artist projects, public installations, institutional collaborations, performances, and interdisciplinary ventures.

EARLIER CAREER

A Gateway to Artistic Exploration:

One of Pace's most enduring legacies is its contribution to the world of art bookmaking. Collaborating closely with artists, the gallery has published over five hundred titles, emphasizing original scholarship and introducing fresh voices to the art historical canon. These publications serve as a testament to the gallery's enduring commitment to art's multifaceted narrative.

FURTHER HIGHLIGHTS

A Global Artistic Network:

Pace Gallery's global presence has flourished with seven locations worldwide. The gallery's European footprint extends to London and Geneva, with Berlin joining the roster in 2023. On home turf in New York, Pace boasts two galleries—a headquarters at 540 West 25th Street, which has hosted nearly 120,000 visitors and staged 20 exhibitions in its first six months, and an adjacent 8,000 sq. ft. exhibition space at 510 West 25th Street. Pace's trailblazing engagement with California's Silicon Valley has sparked transformative initiatives linking art and technology and catalyzing partnerships with experiential artists. This thriving West Coast involvement culminated in the unveiling of the flagship gallery in Los Angeles in 2022.

Internationally, Pace was among the first to set up outposts in Asia, with permanent gallery spaces in Hong Kong and Seoul, accompanied by an office and viewing room in Beijing. In the spring of 2024, Pace will add another gem to its global constellation with the inauguration of its inaugural gallery in Tokyo's vibrant Azabudai Hills development.

Pace Gallery's indomitable spirit, ceaseless pursuit of innovation, and unwavering dedication to artists have forged a path that not only reflects the annals of contemporary art but also illuminates a boundless future where artistic boundaries are redefined.
