Di Donna Galleries: Where Art and History Converge
Di Donna Galleries stands at the crossroads of artistic excellence and historical significance, specializing in curating and showcasing European and American art from 1900 to 1970, with a keen focus on the enigmatic world of Surrealism. Founded in 2010 by the distinguished Emmanuel Di Donna, a former Vice Chairman of Sotheby's Impressionist & Modern Art Worldwide, the gallery offers a space where art enthusiasts and collectors alike can delve into a world of masterpieces.
Di Donna Galleries' mission goes beyond the confines of their gallery walls. They provide expert advice to both private collectors and institutions, facilitating the assembly of distinguished art collections. It's not just about selling art; it's about curating a cultural legacy. The gallery has successfully placed significant artworks in private collections and museums worldwide, adding to the rich tapestry of human creativity.
EARLIER CAREER
What truly sets Di Donna Galleries apart is their commitment to exploring art deeply. They've orchestrated monographic exhibitions featuring artistic luminaries like René Magritte, André Masson, and Andy Warhol, offering viewers an intimate look into the minds of these geniuses. The gallery has also embarked on ambitious group exhibitions that illuminate art movements with vision and verve.
In 2016, they opened a state-of-the-art space on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York, with an inaugural exhibition, "Paths to the Absolute." This exhibition brought together the works of master painters like Kandinsky, Malevich, Mondrian, Newman, Pollock, Rothko, and Still, showcasing two defining moments in the evolution of European and American abstract painting.
FURTHER HIGHLIGHTS
Their subsequent exhibitions have continued to blur the lines of artistic conventions. From "A Surrealist Banquet" to "Surrealism in Mexico," Di Donna Galleries explores the boundaries of art and challenges our perceptions. In Fall 2019, they unveiled "Enigma & Desire: Man Ray Paintings," the first survey exhibition dedicated to Man Ray's paintings, solidifying his historical position as a prophetic painter and theorist.
In Spring 2020, the gallery hosted the final installment of the "Maria Helena Vieira da Silva" exhibition, celebrating this iconic artist known for her captivating sense of rhythm and pattern. This exhibition spanned the entirety of Vieira da Silva's career and served as a testament to her influence on post-war art.
CURRENT HIGHLIGHTS
Di Donna Galleries is not confined to their gallery space; they participate annually in Art Basel in Switzerland and in TEFAF New York. As a proud member of The Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA), they continue to redefine the art world, forging paths between art and history.
