Christopher Nolan’s New

Film Is Titled Tenet

For monthss, we’ve known that Christopher Nolan was building up to shooting his next film – his first since 2017’s Dunkirk (Trailer). But in typical Nolan style, everything about the film was being kept top-secret, with nary a title, plot outline, or concrete detail emerging. But Warner Bros has just confirmed that the film has started shooting, sharing some tantalising details of what the master filmmaker has in store next.

The film is called Tenet – a classic Nolan one-word title. It’s an action spy film, written by Nolan himself, and due to shoot across seven countries. And in its cast, you’ll find BlacKk Klansman's John David Washington leading the way, joined by the likes of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Kenneth Branagh, Dimple Kapadia, Clémence Poésy and Nolan’s lucky charm Michael Caine. On the filmmaking side, he’s teaming back up with DP Hoyte van Hoytema, with Oscar-winning Black Panther scorer Ludwig Göransson on board to deliver the film’s musical accompaniment.

That's right – no Hans Zimmer score for this one.

It’s interesting to hear Nolan is heading into full spy territory – it’s long been wondered whether the filmmaker would ever bring his talents to the Bond franchise, with Inception (Trailer) channeling 007 vibes into his usual brand of cerebral sci-fi. And what does ‘Tenet’ actually mean? It relates to principles and beliefs – the central ethos of a religion or school of thought. Now that sounds like the Christopher Nolan we all know.

Tenet is coming to the big screen on 17 July 2020.
